DLEA-G Officers Nab 49 Suspects

The spokesperson of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency-The Gambia, Mr. Ousman Saidyba, has over the weekend informed this medium that his Agency has apprehended forty-nine suspects who were involved in twenty six cases of alleged drug peddling in recent weeks.

He reported that all the suspects arrested and taken into custody are adult males between the ages of 19 and 32 years.

Spokesperson Saidybah said out of the forty-nine suspects, forty-eight are Gambians and one Senegalese national.

“Our officers at the Banjul Division registered two cases involving seven suspects. The West Coast Regional Command registered fourteen cases involving thirty-two suspects while the Kanifing Municipal unit registered eight cases involving eight suspects. The North Bank Regional command registered one case involving one suspect, while the Central River Regional Command registered one case involving one suspect,” Saidybah stated.  

PRO Saidyba said in Banjul, the suspects were arrested at Grant Street in particular and other locations within Banjul, and the type of drugs seized from them are ‘kush’ and cannabis sativa. He added that in the West Coast Region, the suspects were arrested in Giborro, Jamburr, Gunjur, Gunjur beachside, Brufut, Bijilo beachside, Coastal Road garage, Bullock checkpoint, Lamin and Old Yundum and that the types of drugs seized from them were cannabis sativa, ‘hashish’ and ‘skunk’.

In Kanifing Municipality, PRO Saidyba said the suspects were arrested in Kanifing Estate, Serrekunda, Kololi sport bar, Old Jeshwang, Tallinding and Bakoteh garage and the types of drugs seized from them were cannabis sativa, ‘skunk’ and ‘kush’. Mr Saidybah explained that in the North Bank Region, the suspects were arrested in Niumi Albreda and Black Cow Bar in Barra.’

In CRR South, he said, the suspects were arrested at Sarre Butty with cannabis sativa.

Saidyba said the cumulative total quantity of drugs seized equates to the following breakdown: 64 bundles, 79 parcels, 646 wraps, and some quantities of Cannabis Sativa; 81 pieces of Cannabis Resin (Hashish); 2 plastic bags with 12 wraps of     ‘Skunk’, 4 medical plastics and 52 wraps of  ‘Kush’.
