DLEA-G Nabs 21 with Suspected Kush, Other Prohibited Drugs

The Spokesperson of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency – The Gambia (DLEAG) Mr Ousman Saidybah has recently informed this medium that his agency had arrested twenty-one individuals with suspected kush and other illicit drugs.

He said the twenty-one suspects were all males involved in eighteen cases. Twenty of them are Gambians and the remaining one is a Sierra Leonean national.

He said that the cumulative total quantities of drugs seized include 59 bundles, 5 parcels, 147 wraps of Cannabis Sativa, 172 wraps of Kush, 6 medical plastic bags 13 pieces of Skunk, and 1 stone of Crack Cocaine. 

“The suspects were arrested within the West Coast Region, Kanifing Municipality, Banjul Division North Bank Region, and Upper River Region. The classes of prohibited drugs seized for the reporting period are cannabis sativa, kush, skunk, and crack cocaine and all the accused persons are adult males,” he said.       

He said that the occupations of the arrestees are business, laborer, carpenter, painter, tile man, mechanic, mason, ceiling designer, welder man, woodworker, driver and herbalist. Vehicles were used as the means of concealment for two (2) of the cases from the Brufut TAF estate. 

“In one of the cases involving three (3) adult male Gambians, twenty (20) bundles of cannabis sativa were concealed in the boot of a BMW X5 vehicle with registration number BJL 5038 S. In the other case equally involving three (3) adult male Gambians, two separate vehicles were used to conceal a cumulative total quantity of 13 bundles of cannabis sativa. The vehicles are C– Class Mercedes Benz with registration number BJL 1779 X and POLO BJL 0968 T,” he said.
