By Kebba Jeffang The whereabouts of Mr. Bai Jobe Njie, the father of Modou Njie, theModou Njie ex-soldier of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) who was said to be part of the insurgents that attacked the state house in Banjul on 30 December 2014, is still not known after he was picked up from his home 83 days ago today.A source giving an update said he has not been seen or heard from by his family since his arrest around 2 am on Friday, 2nd January 2015. “We don’t know his whereabouts and are always praying for his safe return home as soon possible to end our nightmare,” he said. Mr. Njie’s arrest and continuous long detention without trial is a violation of the constitutional provision which states that no one should be detained beyond 72 hours without being released, charged, granted bail or taken before a competent court of law. It was earlier announced by the state that the son of Mr. Njie, Momodou Njie, who left the army and went to Germany, was captured and was helping them with their investigation. The father was arrested on the 2 January at his home in Tallinding ‘Farokono’ in the wee hours of the morning by men who came with a numberless vehicle and then whisked him away to an unknown destination. Mr. Bai Jobe Njie is a driver at the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC).]]>
