Diomaye leads the polls amid jubilation

The results of Senegal’s presidential election emerging from polling stations at the time of going to press shows Bassirou Diomaye Faye is leading the race for the West African country’s presidency as he swept the polls in almost all the known results, according to reports.

One of the largest voting centres in the Senegalese Diaspora, the Paris voting center was mainly won by candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye, beating Benno Bokk Yakaar’s candidate, Amadou Ba, according to reports.  In the Paris voting centres, Diomaye Faye accumulated 970 votes, Amadou Ba 431 votes, Idriss Seck coalition won 10 votes, AMD got 15 votes PDF 8 votes, MLD 2 votes, Khalifa Sall 18 votes, TAS 5 Daouda Ndiaye won 2 votes, Serigne Mboup 3 votes; Anta Babacar Ngom 3 votes, Dionne got 2 votes, Ngouille 1 votes, Kamah 2 votes, and CTD with a single vote.

In the Touba region, Diomaye won all 95 polling centres in the Darou Khoudoss center, after sweeping the polls in all the 87 polling stations in the center of Darou Marnane, as well as all 95 polling stations in the center of Touba Darou Khoudoss, reports say.

At the polling station where Macky Sall voted in Fatick at the Thierno Mamadou Sall centre, Amadou Ba won with 219 votes against 113 for Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Considering the reported provisional results, almost all of the candidates, including Khalifa Sall, Anta Babacar Ngom, Idrissa Seck, Serigne Mboup, Aliou Mamadou Dia, Amadou Ba, Thierno Alassane Sall were beaten at home.

Foroyaa visited some streets in the capital with people already starting to jubilate, given the figures coming out of the polls. There is excitement in the streets of Dakar where young people shout “Diomaye moyy Sonko!”. Car horns and rolling of “djembo-djembo” resonate everywhere.

Meanwhile, the electoral body is yet to announce the official results and the percentage of votes obtained by candidates; however, the first figures are very favorable to the coalition candidate Diomaye President. Official pronouncement of the results is expected soon.
