DID THE GOVERNMENT CONDUCT SUFFICIENT CONSULTATION ON THE SANYANG DEEP SEA PORT PROJECT?

The Government of The Gambia needs to study the contracts it signs before doing so due to the numerous cases it lost due to international arbitration. It is very likely that the National Assembly members will raise questions on the sum the various governments of The Gambia have paid as damages from 1994 to date.

Experts have approached Foroyaa to raise concerns regarding the challenges of constructing a deep sea port in the Sanyang area. We hope they will prepare documents in that regard and submit themselves to interviews that will inform the government of their opinions. It may be a new approach and a wise one for a government to submit such contracts to public hearings to get the views of concerned citizens who may have the expertise on such matters.
