The Governor of the Central Bank has made it evident that the low earnings from exports are being cushioned by the high level of remittances rising up to D45.6 billion dalasi in 2023. These remittances constitute the key means of stabilising the dalasi since the government has identified the Diaspora as a strategic economic power deserving attention in promoting an investment programme that will leverage on remittances.

It is equally important that any new Elections Act and Constitution should ensure and safeguard the registration of Gambians in the Diaspora as voters. This matter should no longer be compromised and a serious campaign for Diaspora voting should be launched to ensure that it is a reality before the next electoral cycle.
