During an election period, incumbents usually put up their best behaviour in order to attract voters. In many instances, they would grant general amnesty to prisoners, impose financial discipline in budgeting, award benefits to tax payers and show that they would address the needs and aspirations of the people if elected.
What is strange about the Gambian situation is that we have entered an election period but exposures on detention without trial like that of Omar Malleh Jabang still prevail.
Foroyaa is gathering information on Omar Malleh Jabang’s abduction. We call it abduction because 72 hours have elapsed without any official making a public pronouncement on the issue.
We hope that the ministry of the interior will be activated to look into arrests and detentions and develop cooperation initiatives with all stakeholders to prevent such detentions.
