By Mamadou Dem Antouman Gaye, counsel for Mambanyick Njie, former Permanent Mambanyick NjieSecretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, on Monday, 8th September, informed the Banjul Magistrates’ Court that they will make an oral address at the next sitting. The matter presided over by acting Principal Magistrate Lamin Mbaye Sr. was scheduled for the prosecution to file their address, but Police Prosecutor Alieu Faye submitted that the prosecution would rely entirely on the evidence adduced before the court. Thereafter, the trial Magistrate said “the evidence before the court is hereby adopted.” Readers would recalled that the prosecution alleged that Mr. Mambanyick Njie, “on or about the 1st day of March 2012, in the City of Banjul, Republic of The Gambia, whilst as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, petitioned the Office of the President to wit: that the Ex GFA (Gambia Football Association) Executive were engaged in financial malpractices and never gave a through account of the imprest given to them for international marches and therefore sought approval to dissolve the said GFA Executive, an information he knew to be false or does not believe to be true and thereby committed an offence”. The former Youth and Sports P.S. pleaded not guilty to the charge. The case was adjourned to Thursday 11th September, 2014 for the defence to address the court.  ]]>
