DEFENCE ADOPTS BRIEFS IN VERONIC CARAYOL’S TRIAL

By Rohey Jadama Hawa Sisay Sabally, defence counsel for Mrs. Veronic Carayol, the Deputy Veronic CarayolCommissioner of Enforcement at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), proceeded with the adoption of the brief of the defence before Magistrate Fatou Darboe of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court, yesterday, 18th December, 2014. When the case was called, the prosecution was not in Court while the accused was present and represented by her counsel. Counsel Sisay Sabally told the court that she wish to adopt the brief on behalf of the accused person which is dated 2nd December 2014 and the reply on the points of law filed on the 17th December 2014. “I therefore urged this court to uphold the ‘no case to answer submission’ on behalf of the accused person and for the court to acquit and discharge the accused person for the alleged offence,” submitted the defence counsel. In her arguments, the defence counsel cited Gambian authorities such as the High Court decision on the case of the State versus Mambury Njie, among others. She added that they are relying on all the paragraphs being filed by the defence. The trial magistrate at this juncture, adjourned the matter to Wednesday, 24th December, 2014 for the adoption of prosecution’s brief.]]>
