Court Sentences Yankuba Badjie & Co to Death

Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara of the Banjul High Court has on Wednesday, 13th July sentenced Yankuba Badjie and other former intelligence officers to death after convicting them of the murder of Ebrima Solo Sandeng, a political activist.

The five year trial of former intelligence chiefs came to an end on Wednesday as the Judge handed her verdict. Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara convicted former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Yankuba Badjie and former Deputy Director of Operations Sheikh Omar Jeng guilty of murder among others on various crimes including murder, conspiracy to murder, accessory after the fact of murder and torture.

The court also held that they are guilty of torturing Nogoi Njie and other UDP protesters who were detained at Mile after the April 16, 2016 UDP protest.
