Court Sentences Brikama Imams After They Pleaded Guilty to Violating Ban on Friday Congregational Prayers

Two imams who were arrested by state security agents on 17 April 2020, for violating the government’s restriction on congregational prayers, have been sentenced to a fine of D2000 each after they both pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against them by prosecutors at the Brikama Magistrate’s court.

Police spokesperson, ASP Lamin Njie confirmed to Foroyaa that the two Imams from Brikama Jidda and Darsilameh respectively were arraigned in court on 7th May 2020.

He added the said imams pleaded guilty to charges and were each fined the sum of D2000 in default to serve one month imprisonment.

When asked whether the fines were paid, he responded: “They paid the fines at Brikama’s Magistrate court.”

It could be recalled that Karamo Camara the Imam of Brikama Darsilameh and Imam Yusupha Camara of Brikama Sanchaba were picked-up by the Police for leading congregational Friday prayers.
