The High Court on Monday ordered West Coast Radio to produce the complete and unaltered audio recording of a September 14, 2023 interview with Government Spokesperson Ebrima G. Sankareh, following a request by defence counsel in the ongoing Sukuta-Jabang police shooting trial.
The order came after defence lawyer Adama Sillah, representing the second accused, argued that some of Mr. Sankareh’s responses under cross-examination were inconsistent with what was aired. “My lord, I apply for the court to order West Coast Radio to produce the audio of the interview with Ebrima G. Sankareh,” Sillah said.
Justice Ebrima Jaiteh granted the application under Section 123 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Section 221 of the Evidence Act, 1994. He directed the station’s proprietor to appear before the court and submit the full recording of the interview conducted by journalist Peter Gomez.
The court stated the directive was issued “at the instance of the Defence Counsel for the 2nd Accused Person to ensure justice.” The matter was adjourned to June 24, 2025, for compliance and continuation of proceedings.
