Foroyaa is investigating the current laws, policies and precedents governing the employment of teachers after graduation in The Gambia. It has been a precedent that once qualified teachers, nurses and public health officials completed their courses, they are automatically enrolled in the civil service. It is shocking to hear some comments from authorities that this long-standing practice and expectation may no longer be the case. We are not convinced that that is the case or should be the case if there is a trend toward rolling back standard practice. No society can have good health and education without increasing the number of its teachers and nurses as the population of young people outnumbers the adults.
We will continue with our investigation and accordingly elucidate further clarification on this subject matter.
