Corporal Ceesay Escapes From Custody

Inspector Saidykhan, the prosecuting officer in the criminal trial involving one Corporal Alagie Ceesay of the Gambia Police Force has informed the court that Ceesay has absconded from custody and they are still looking for him.

According to the police, Ceesay escaped on Monday morning when he was scheduled to appear before the Banjul Magistrate’s Court to face trial.

Corporal Ceesay is charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm to a civilian, Alagie Tambedou.

According to the particulars of the offence, Ceesay assaulted Tambedou by blowing him on his mouth and broke two of his tooth causing him grievous bodily harm. The incident allegedly occurred at the Police Headquarters on 17th July, 2020.

Inspector Saidykhan informed the court that Ceesay was granted bail and he (Ceesay) reported to the police headquarters on bail on the evening of Monday, 9th February 2021 but escaped the following morning.

Magistrate Sillah of the Banjul Magistrate’s Court adjourned the case to Thursday, 11th February 2021, at 1 pm for hearing, while blaming the police for negligence as they (police) continue to look for him.
