The Wellingara – Sinchu Alagi highway, commonly called ‘Coastal Road’, which until recently is in such a bad and dilapidated state is presently under reconstruction by the National Roads Authority (NRA).

Visiting the area yesterday, 10 March 2016, this reporter found a diversion of vehicular traffic as reconstruction work was ongoing.

The state of the road was a source of much consternation to both the users and residents in the area as it is vital route that serves residents in numerous and densely populated communities such as Wellingara, Kunkujang as well as the three Sinchus and beyond. It seems that the road reconstruction work is going to cover the stretch from the Wellingara police station to the Sinchu Alagi market. The team has already started work as the machines and vehicles are seen at the site.

Speaking to some of the drivers who ply the road, they said the reconstruction work is a welcome development as the condition of the road has been damaging their vehicles and forcing some of them to be using either the diversions or abandoning the road altogether.

This reporter visited the office of the NRA for an interview to find out the distance, standard and duration of project but the director was said to be busy.

Foroyaa will make efforts to get the details for the benefit of the readers and road users.
