COALITION CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE CONSTITUTIONAL REFORM

46

The Gambia’s political environment is yet to be fully shaped for individuals and political parties to know what tactics they are to adopt. The key indicator is the Constitution of the Third Republic. It is this Constitution that will determine whether there will be a term limit or not as well as the second round of voting if any of the candidates fails to get fifty percent of the votes cast.

There is need for concerted effort to ensure that the Constitution Bill is brought to the National Assembly and subjected to a referendum. The text of the Constitution will ultimately shape the nature of the political environment and thus facilitate cooperation among the people as well as political parties.
