Local-based Teranga Lions ensured their neighbours had first leg visit to forget at the Leopold Sedar Senghore stadium putting three past Gambia. Gaffer Bonu Johnson’s men managed to score via Real de Banjul’s Salifu Krubally but it proved wholly insufficient as the result ticked 3-1. Saturday’s cracker marked Gambia’s return to CHAN for the first time since 2008 after suffering an early exit in the qualifiers to Mauritania. CHAN is a biennial championship and is the local version of the Africa Cup of Nations but strictly for local-based national team players aimed at reviving domestic football at continental level. The second leg takes place either 3rd or 5th of July at the Bakau Independence Stadium. The winner will face either Liberia or Guinea at the next round of the qualifiers for the fourth edition of the tournament.
