Badou Jack could leave the Super-middleweight Division behind confirms his promoter Mayweather Jnr.
Jack, the first Gambian to win the WBC Super-middleweight belt, over the weekend drew IBF Super-middleweight champion James DeGale.
Winner of the hotly contested duel would have clutched the Unified Super-middleweight belt which translates as the best there is in that category.
The UK champion DeGale first floored Jack in the first round before the Gambian responded, sensationally knocking out James in the final round.
That proved the turning point but judges’ scorecards read 114-112 to DeGale, 113-113 and 113-113 meaning a majority draw.
DeGale had to visit the hospital after the fight after losing a tooth before later taking to his twitter handle to announce he wants a rematch.
Whether that proposal will see light of day remains to be seen with Jack’s promoter legendary Mayweather Jnr convinced that the Gambian is getting too big for the Super-middleweight, suggesting he moves to the light-heavyweight division.
In his post-match reaction, Mayweather calls the fight ‘bad for boxing’.
‘We don’t need to figure it out, I’m the promoter this is my fighter,’ he said.
‘Badou Jack has got too big for 168lbs. We have plans after this fight to move up to light-heavyweight.
‘This [result] is bad for boxing when it’s all said and done, this is really bad for boxing.’
Jack retains his World Boxing Council Super-middleweight belt.
