Challenging times for the Gambia

In the past when one wishes to caution a government to address its shortcomings, be it violation of fundamental rights or abuse of authority, one points out the writings on the wall.

In The Gambia, one never thought that the headquarters of the ruling party would be the symbol utilised to draw the attention of the government to the need to put an end to arrests and detentions without trial, death in custody, dead under detention without coroner’s inquest, disappearances and long imprisonment before conviction, just to name a few anomalies.

What a country needs is well informed person through the media and a responsive government which does not ignore any criticism but would do everything to address public concerns.

The Gambia is going through many challenges and the government should now pursue the course of dialogue and respect of the rights of the people.
