All ears will be given to the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs as he delivers his speech on Friday, 13th December, 2024. The state of the nation’s economy is to be laid before the Gambian people. How revenue is to be raised and how much is expected to be raised would be key indicators of the fiscal trend of the economy.
Will the economy depend mainly on taxation or will there be other innovative ways of raising revenue as hinted by the president during his tour. Will those ways be realistic or building castles in the air? Will there be more dependency on loans and grants or greater self-reliance in financing the budget other than taxation. The questions are many. The Gambian population, the unemployed and the employed, the owners of small, medium and large scale enterprises and the general population at large will learn from the budget speech whether their general welfare will improve in 2025 or not.
