The Gambia and Paide Linnameeskond 20-year-old striker Bubacarr Tambedou has signed for Moldova’s top club Sheriff Tiraspoli on a loan contract until the end of the season.
The talented forward joined the Paide City team in 2022 from Gambian partner club Real de Banjul and has since scored 7 goals in 18 Premier League games.
It was his decisive penalty against Ararat-Armenia at the Pärnu beach stadium in the replay of the second qualifying round of last year’s UEFA Conference League that secured the City team’s historic advance to the third preliminary round, Paide City stated on Saturday.
According to Gert Kams, the sports director of the city team, there was a lively interest in Tambedou from outside Estonia already after the Euro summer.
“If at that time no specific offers were reached before the closing of the transfer window, they were already approached by several clubs between the two seasons,” said Kams. “The Sheriff was able to act the fastest among the interested parties, and I am happy that such a top club will be another sign on the path of young players who have taken the next step from the City team. During his time in Estonia, Buba matured tactically and stood out with his technical skills and goalkeeping skills. We wish him nothing but success!”
“Sheriff FC has been the sole ruler of Moldovan football for the past two decades. The club, founded 26 years ago, has won 20 Moldovan championships, 11 cup victories and seven Super Cup victories.
“However, the club had to wait longer for success in the Euroseries, for the first time they played in the UEFA Europa League group stage in the 2009/10 season. Last year, they reached the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time, where they also won a 2:1 away victory over Real Madrid, which shook the world of football.
“In Moldova’s Divizia Nationala, which is about to return from the winter break, Sheriff holds the top spot after half a season with a six-point advantage over the nearest pursuers, having won ten, drawn three and lost just one of their 14 games,” Paide City further stated.
