Mr. Buba Ceesay, a Senior Customs Officer of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) attached to the Banjul International Buba CeesayAirport and who is residing in Tabokoto, has still not re-united with his family after he was arrested and subsequently detained without release or trial for 108 days (today), according to a close family source.

The relative of the Customs officer said their loved one is still detained at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) headquarters in Banjul without any reason given to them as to why he is held.

Mr. Ceesay was reported to be arrested on Monday, 24 August, 2015 while he was on the verge of travelling out of the country for a mission. The report indicated that he had received a phone call from someone who asked him to immediately report at the airport and that upon his arrival he was picked up and later taken to the NIA head office in Banjul where he is currently detained for more than three months now.

His continued detention for this long is in gross violation of the Constitution of the second republic of the Gambia which states in section 19 that “A person shall not be detained for more than 72 hours without being taken to court or be released with or without condition.”

The source further indicated that family of Mr. Ceesay is appealing to the authorities to release their loved one.
