Players of First Division club Brikama United have resumed normal training after putting an end to a sit-downbrikama-united strike they began days ago, Foroyaa Sport can reveal.

The side’s players were on strike in angry reaction to the Brikama Sports Committee inability to tap funds to facilitate the team’s participation in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Winning the league or FA Cup title  means qualifying for either the Caf Confederation or Champions League and the then incoming Brikama Sports Committee (BSC), ardent on stamping a footmark in their first term, made promise to the zone’s players they would  be accorded with funds to facilitate their participation in any continental Cup if they win a title.

And apparently shocked at news that the needed funds couldn’t be tapped a thing seen as false promises on the part of the BSC, the Brikama United players decided to stage a sit-down strike.

The announcement didn’t only render club supporters exasperated but also had players seething and demoralized.

The staged strike lasting for few days, according to an insider, didn’t trigger much of unrest giving it coincided with election period. The matter however has been resolved after a heart-to-heart talk between the committee and the players.

Winning the title or a Cup and pulling out of Caf competition in the last minutes can be as costly with low morale amongst players likely to set in. Biko, who won the title but got relegated the following season after withdrawing from the CL, including Wallidan and Banjul United know all about the consequence of opting out of a continental competition.
