Sainabou Jallow, a revenue collector at the Brikama Area Council (BAC)  Wednesday, 31 July 2024 appeared before the Local Government Commission of Inquiry to account for the revenue she collected.

29-year-old Sainabou began working at the BAC in December 2016. She was asked to produce her cash books covering from 2018 to 2023. The witness provided her 2018 and 2019 cash book, but claimed that the one covering 2021 and 2022 was missing.

“My problem is you do not have your cash book for 2021 and 2022,” Lead Counsel Patrick Gomez said.

“Yes. I have looked for it, but I could not see it,” the young collector said.

“How would we know your collections for this period? How would you account for it?” Counsel Gomez asked.

“It would be difficult. I am pleading with the Commission to give me time to go back and continue searching,” the witness replied.

The request was granted. She will reappear next week.

She testified that for 2018 and 2019, she used to take her collections to the Brikama Area Council, where she will be issued a receipt by the Principal Cashier, Lamin Kantong Kanteh. In this period, she said she was not doing bank depositing of her collections. She stated the collections from 2020 to 2023 were all banked mainly in the Vista Bank account of BAC. She added that she deposited in the GTBank only twice. She began depositing in the Eco Bank recently.
