By Sulayman Bah Relegated former Gambian league champions Steve Biko have denied prevalent Abdoulie Bojangreports of a mass player exodus as a result of lack of motivation at the Bakau-based club. The Giant Killers endured an acrimonious outing the previous term and unsurprisingly got demoted following an almost entire season of relegation. The club’s crisis, many believe, began with the failure of Ministry of youth and Sports (MOYS) to foot Biko’s bill to partake in the CAF Champions League qualifiers, which the club has prepared for months. The situation dampened the mood at the erstwhile league champions leaving players red faced and hanging and hence reflection of the club’s catalogue of dismal runs and finally demotion to the second tier. Claims of an exodus of players for greener pastures abound. When reached for comments on the issue, Steve Biko’s coach, Abdoulie Bojang rebuts the claim of an exodus saying that it is only one player who has moved to top flight club Armed Forces. ‘No player left the club, its only one. Of course at end of and during the season, we had problems. The players prepared for the CAF tournament but we were unable to play. There was disappointment. But after the season we decided to talk to the players to voice their grievances and we have settled that already. Everything is ok now,” Bojang told Foroyaa Sport yesterday afternoon.]]>
