President Adama Barrow is expected to deliver the much-anticipated 2025 State of the Nation Address (SoNA) before the National Assembly on Thursday, June 19, 2025 in accordance with Section 77(1) of the 1997 Constitution.

The announcement, issued by the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly, marks the official commencement of the SoNA, a constitutional obligation that allows the Head of State to update lawmakers and the public on the condition of the country, his government’s policy direction, and legislative agenda.

The event, which will take place at the National Assembly Chambers in Banjul, comes amid heightened public interest in key national issues, including the economy, youth unemployment, healthcare, education, transitional justice, and constitutional reform. The President’s address is expected to provide clarity on government priorities and progress on flagship programs, while setting the tone for legislative engagement during the second ordinary session of the year.

Admission to the Chambers for the SoNA is strictly by invitation, the Assembly announced. Attendees must also observe parliamentary protocols, including formal dress and absolute silence during proceedings.

President Barrow’s 2025 address is widely expected to highlight government spending, fiscal discipline, and development strategies as the country prepares for future elections and continues post-pandemic recovery efforts. Analysts and civil society groups are also watching closely to see whether the President will speak on corruption, public sector reforms, and the pending constitutional bill.

The State of the Nation Address is a vital moment in The Gambia’s democratic calendar, offering both lawmakers and citizens a rare, comprehensive review of national governance from the highest office in the land.
