Banjul Sea claims lives of three women

Information from the Police revealed that Marian Loum, age 29, Haddy Sowe, age 19, and a 17 year old girl have drowned at sea on Saturday 22nd October, 2016.

They drowned at sea behind the former Radio Syd in the outskirts of the capital city.

Disclosing the circumstances surrounding this sad incident in a press release, Inspector  Foday Conta indicated that the police is in receipt of a case of drowning of three people who left their homes to have a picnic on the beach behind the former Radio Syd in the outskirts of Banjul.

The release states that “Upon their arrival, they started swimming along with Mr John Colley Loum, husband to the deceased, Marian Loum, God father to the 17 year old girl and neighbor to Haddy Sowe, all deceased.”

It continued “As Mr. Loum came out of the water, he noticed that his wife was calling for help. All the three people drowned. However, Marian Loum was rescued alive but was later pronounced death at the EFSTH.”

The release noted that on Sunday, 23rd October 2016, the other two bodies were found on the beach behind Lands Office.

It concluded “The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is hereby warning the general population to always be wise regarding how to use the beaches. Let’s always be mindful and be vigilant when we go to the beach, especially with our families.”
