By Lamin Sanyang Hon Abdoulie Saine, the National Assembly Member for Banjul Central, in Hon. Abdoulie Sainehis contribution to the debate yesterday, Tuesday, 26 August, 2014 at the National Assembly complex said he was misquoted by a newspaper editorial and an opposition party leader on the issue of making the president a monarch. “I was misquoted by an editorial of Foroyaa Newspaper written by Halifa Sallah. I was also misquoted by a leader of an opposition party, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, when I said we should crown the President,” said Hon. Saine. The Banjul Central NAM said what he told the deputies at the National Assembly was that they can crown the President in their own way by making him a constitutional monarch. “We can crown him in our own way. I said we should give a constitutional monarchy,” said the Banjul Central NAM. In his contribution to the adjiournment debate, Hon. Baboucar Nyang, the NAM for Banjul South, lamented the high numbers of young people taking the ‘back way’ journey to Europe. He called on the authorities to take up the matter to the continental body (AU) since it is not only a Gambian issue but that of the continent. He said three (3) people from the same compound in Banjul South died in the sea. “Many of our young people are dying in Libya and the Mediterranean Sea,” said Hon. Nyang. For her part, Hon. Haddy Nyang, NAM for Jeshwang, said it is disheartening to see the way young people are taking the back way to Europe after all the development efforts initiated by the president of the republic. She cited the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS), National Youth Council (NYC) and President Award Scheme among others as the opportunities being created for the youth. She called on the youth of the country to desist from the “deadly journey of back way to Europe.”]]>
