Mr Bakary Jammeh, the former Governor of the Central Bank has declined the offer of post for the Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, according to the office of the President.
“The Secretary General said that he (Jammeh) has declined the offer,” Mrs. Amie Bojang-Sissoho Director of Press & Public Relations Office of the President told Foroyaa.
Meanwhile, in a new development, the ex-governor Jammeh said he declined the offer and that he wrote the letter contrary to what he earlier told Foroyaa that he did not say or write anything regarding whether or not he will complete his five year term of office at the aforesaid bank.
He said: “You know there was an offer, then I declined the offer. I wrote a letter indicating that I declined the offer.”
Jammeh earlier told this paper on a short phone conversation, “It’s not true. I never say that neither did I write it.’’
When asked whether he has reported to his new place of assignment as Trade Minister, he responded: “Well, it’s premature for me to make comments on that as for now, but whenever I want to make comment, I will call the press for a briefing.’’
A staff of the Central Bank Monday told Foroyaa on condition of anonymity that the new appointee Buah Saidy has reported to work.
Jammeh was appointed by President Barrow as Minister for Trade. He was replaced by Buah Saidy, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs on 1st October 2020.
