One of the aspiring candidates for the Kanifing Municipal Council’s (KMC) Mayoral seat, Bakary Badgie, has returned home after being away in the United States. Mr. Badgie landed at the Banjul International Airport at fifteen hundred hours (15:00) in the afternoon of Friday, 13th October 2017.
He was received at the Airport Main Terminal by fans and well-wishers amidst drumming, singing, dancing and clapping as their candidate for Mayor in the upcoming Local Government Elections, scheduled to take place in 2018.
Shortly after his arrival on his home soil, Badgie held a press conference with Journalists at the Airport.
Bakary Badgie, the aspiring candidate, expressed appreciation to his campaign team for the job they have been doing since his candidature was officially launched on 17th July 2017. He said his candidature is both community and youth driven; that this was done after series of consultations and was unanimously accepted by KMC youth, to be their candidate
“I have the support of the vast majority of the KMC electorate who are interested in having a Municipality that will manage the resources and plough them back to the people. For 52 years, no meaningful development has been registered within the Municipality and this is why young people want to step in and change the status quo,” Badgie said.
He outlined waste management, provision of good roads and other benefits of paying taxes by the people; that they do not deserve the challenges that has been hitting the Municipality and vowed to make this history.
On the mechanism he will put in place to help solve the problems of the youth such as unemployment, irregular migration and whether his administration will be open to the Media if elected as the mayor of KMC, Badgie responded that since his candidature is driven by the youth, he will do his utmost in ensuring that solutions are provided to curb their plight; that his administration will be media friendly as he believes in accountability and transparency and that he is hopeful of victory in the 2018 Local Government Elections.
He concluded by thanking the media houses for their coverage and implored on them to continue the momentum in the dissemination of information to the public.
