Mr. Modou Jonga, Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Brikama Area Council (BAC), said they are trying their best to remove the Garbage dump blocking access to nearby market and schoolgarbage at Wellingara and will be consulting the community and nearby school authorities for a lasting solution to this perennial problem.

He said this at his office yesterday, 8 August 2016, in response to concerns being raised again by the residents, vendors and authorities of the school within the vicinity of the said garbage dumpsite.

According to PRO Jonga, they have even sent a team to collect the garbage at the said site last Saturday but that the people always dump garbage there.

The BAC PRO expressed concern about the continuous dumping of rubbish at such a place. “I really feel very bad that the people are suffering because of the waste being dumped there,” he said.

Mr. Jonga said there is need for the members of the community to work together with Council as well as the school officials to address the problem, adding that “collecting the garbage always is not the solution.”

According to the PRO, the place is not only being used as a dumpsite by the people of Wellingara but others who come all the way from Lamin.
