Baboucarr Badgie, who is remanded in custody has been finally brought to the Kanifing Magistrate Court yesterday for continuation of his trial. Until yesterday when the former finance officer of the associated Pre-Mix Oil Company was brought to court by prison authorities, the state has not been bringing him to court for 114 days

Mr. Badjie is facing charges in his alleged D33 million theft trial. The case could not proceed on Monday at the instance of the court as it ran out of time because the case was called at 4:04 pm which was beyond the closing time.

Baboucar 29, was arrested on February 29, 2016 and charged with stealing D33 million, being monies of the said company that he diverted to his personal gain by virtue of his position as finance officer of the said company.

The former Prosecutor of the trial, Fadera, disassociated himself from the case due to a claim he made in court that he has been threatened by some of Baboucar’s family members from abroad. This prompted the trial Magistrate, Hilary Abeke to rule that he will write to the Director of Public Prosecutions .

Baboucar’s family has engaged the state on several meetings to administer justice; that is either the case to proceed for the courts to administer justice or the accused person be released from his detention and save him from his long undue detention.

The case is expected to come on Monday August 7, 2017 at 9am for hearing.
