By Mustapha Jallow Sheikh Cham, a young man from Lamin, who claimed that he was arrested and beatenSheikh Cham up by five agents of the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) around 9 pm on Thursday, 19 March 2015, said he is still reporting on bail at the Wellingara Police Station. He told Foroyaa that nothing is being said about the physical assault against him which he reported to police but that they are instead insisting that he continues to be reporting on bail. Mr. Cham said when he reported on Wednesday, 25 March, 2015 at the Wellingara Police Station, he was told to hang around for some time before he was finally asked after an hour later to go home and report again on Monday (30 March). He said he also reported again on Wednesday, 1 April, and was asked to go home and come back another day. When contacted earlier to enquire whether they are aware of the incident, ASP Modou Jobe, NDEA spokesperson, told this reporter that they are investigating the claim and that he will get back to report on any development. However, several efforts have been made, since then, to get in touch with the NDEA Spokesperson but without success. In an earlier report in Foroyaa, Mr. Cham said he was physically assaulted by the agents who put him in hand cuffs and later taken to the Wellingara Police Station where he was detained in an isolation cell until around midday the following day. “Before putting me in a cell, I was asked to write a statement and I spent the night there after which I was released on bail,” said Mr.Cham. He showed a swollen eye and forehead as injuries inflicted on him by those who assaulted him. He also mentioned five names as those he claims were his assailants.  ]]>
