Winner of the title, the equivalent to Gambia’s FA Cup, automatically sails to the Caf Confederation Cup and Assan and his team had come close after breezing into the finals. Ceesay consistently featured in the continental cup with parent club Gamtel – missing out on the competition only last year. He was on track to show up in the tourney this year albeit with a different club until third tier side Generation Foot shocked Casa Sport in the finals -dashing the 21-year-old’s Gambian hopes. Assan starred in the evening match that ended 4-3 in Generation Foot’s favour with team-mate Basirou Badian clattering a hat-trick for Casa. The left-footer Scorpion now has 12 months left on his initial two-year loan contract. His parent Gambian club Gamtel clinched their first GFF league title behind his back. The telecom giants nailing the Gambian gong means automatically reaching the Caf Champions League preliminary round. With the club return to Caf competition, coach Tapha Manneh is not oblivious of the fact his attack –single handedly bossed by leading scorer Yaya Ndong last campaign –is still in dire need of bolstering. Real de Banjul’s lethal goal assassins Madi Fatty and Yankuba Jarju are said to be on Manneh’s wish-list. The capital outfit is a selling club and exposure of their duo strikers to scouring clubs in the continent will be a welcome proposal. The idea of recalling on-loan Assan to forge a partnership with Amadou Baldeh and Ndong has also been mooted but questions linger whether Casa will approve such a move.]]>
