QUESTION OF THE DAY
The human rights commission has been a demand arising from the protocol on good governance of Ecowas. The functions of the commission are many but one of the functions enables it to provide speedy justice. In short, section 12 (d) states,
“The Commission shall recommend appropriate remedial action to the Government and seek appropriate redress on behalf of complainants”
Hence people whose human rights are violated but do not wish to go to court may lodge a complaint to the human rights commission for review and redress. We hope Gambians will make use of such institutions which are financed by tax payers’ money to serve the public interest.
