By Muhammed Sailu Bah Foroyaa has been receiving complaints from the members of the public concerning the non-issuance of national identity cards (ID) to applicants for the past two months in some places.Alh. Cherno Ass Jagne, one of the affected applicants, said his application for a national ID has been submitted to the GAMBIS office at Kanifing more than six weeks ago but he has still not been issued with one after several unsuccessful visits there. He showed his receipt of payment of D220 which was dated 2nd April 2015. “After submitting my application with all the necessary documents on April 2, I was asked to collect it after six weeks. When I returned after this period, I was asked to come back the following week and that every time I go there they would ask me to come again until I finally told them to contact me to come for it whenever it is ready,” explained Mr. Jagne. He explained how the lack of this national document in his possession affects him in his daily transactions and movements as banks, military checkpoints and other places always ask for it. Another complainant, Ousman Njie, explained a similar experience, adding that the Immigration officials at the GAMBIS ID Card issuing office in Kanifing had even refused to take his application and payment. He said they told him that they are not issuing the ID Cards now. When the Immigration Public Relation Officer (PRO) Inspector Mariama Sanyang was contacted on the phone yesterday regarding the issue, she asked this reporter to go there on Monday, 6 July 2105. ]]>
