By Sulayman Bah Dozen’s of fans were left exasperated over the weekend after a combat Baye Mandiayethey have paid tickets to grace failed to proceed. Baye Mandiaye, a disciple of deposed Senegalese King of the Arena Balla Gaye, was billed to square off with Rambo, the Gambian based wrestler from Club Bakau, at the Old Jewshwang primary school. But the proposed bout that has gained much publicity and staged by Champion Sound Promotions did not proceed as planned after the arena lights went off. The blackout occurred immediately before the start of the grand combat with the getting agitated by the failure of the lights to come back which prompted the cancellation of the duel. “We paid for the event and are now unable to watch. You can’t bring people here without having proper structures just in case. This is one of the things sabotaging the sport,” said a disappointed fan, who added, “if you don’t have a standby in case the light goes off then don’t bring people here. This has to stop!” Event promoter Lamin Cham is yet to make a statement. This is the second time Cham’s combat is being dogged by blackouts with the first being the planned Hoyantan versus ‘Gambien’ duel two months ago.]]>
