Gambia’s hope in the World Athletics Championship Adama Jammeh, who came out sixth in the heats, 
yesterday morning ran a season best timing.
The 21-year-old who was in heat six pulled off a timing of 20.81 seconds finishing sixth position. The heat was topped by Greece’s Tsankonas, who clocked 20.14.
Jamaica’s Warren Wein on 20.24 seconds and Great Britain’s Daniel Walter (20.35) joined Tsankonas to be the three who automatically qualified for the semis.
With this result, it means Adama has crashed out of the IAAF 200m race.
Jammeh who is considered the best to have come out of the West Africna zone later wrote ‘I’m thanking each and every one all the way to today.am so grateful and love you all,’ in acknowledgement of the support offered to him prior to the race.
The first three in each heat qualify and followed by the next three fastest in the 200m, according to IAAF rules.
Commenting on the result, Momodou Dibba, President of the Gambia National Olympic Committee, told Foroyaa Sport yesterday: “We are proud of him. He’s the best to have come out of West Africa that’s why we put our resources to see him through.”
