The criminal trial involving Mr. Pa Malick Ceesay, the former
National Assembly Member for Lower Saloum Constituency and also the
erstwhile Coordinator of National Enterprise Development Initiative
(NEDI), and Mr. Ismaila Njie, former Accountant of NEDI, did notproceed yesterday, 21 March, 2016, due to the absence of the seventh
prosecution witness (PW7).
The duo is facing 23 charges including negligence of official duty,
economic crimes, stealing by persons in the public service, making
false documents, etc. and which they denied.
When the case was called before Justice Dada Eunice Oshim of the
Banjul High Court, the Director of Public prosecutions (DPP), Hadi
Saleh Barkun, told the court that he just got a message from PW7, who
was supposed to testify, that he is bereaved and as such would like to
apply for an adjournment.
The DPP further told the court that this one will be there last
witness and also apologised for any inconvenience caused.
Without any objection from A. J. Njie, defence counsel for the accused
persons, the trial judge granted the application of the DPP.
The case was therefore adjourned to 23 March and 3 May, 2016 at 12
noon and between noon and 2pm, respectively.
