Foroyaa had learned that there was a serious accident at Tanji over the weekend leading to fatalities.SERIOUS ACCIDENT CLAIMS 6 LIVES

After receiving the information the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Gambia Police Force (GPF),  ASP Lamin Njie was contacted to shed light on the issue. According to him, the accident occurred on Friday 1st April between 20 and 21hrs along the Tanji highway. He said the accident involved a truck loaded with sand with registration number BJL2645 E and a passenger van with registration number BJL 3809 H. The Police spokesperson added that the truck driver was overtaking another vehicle when the truck collided with the van head on resulting to a serious accident.

Six persons, four male and two female, died in the accident, while five others including the driver of the van are in serious condition and are being hospitalized at EFSTH, the PRO disclosed. He said the truck driver is under police custody and helping the police in their investigation.

PRO Njie has expressed the concern of the police and has urged drivers to strictly adhere to speed limits and road signs at areas out of police sight. He gave a stern warning to drivers to desist from dangerous and reckless driving.

“We wish to reassure the public that the full force of the law shall apply to violators of the traffic acts and regulations and equally we will step up preventive measures to avert such situations in the future. We express our heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families, while calling on genuine partners and organizations to join in raising awareness on road safety as the life you safe may be your own,” the spokesperson noted.
