A businessman involved in the buying and selling of petrol and gasoil (diesel) has expressed his concerns with regards to the sudden reduction of the pump prices of fuel in the country.

The Government of The Gambia has announced this reduction to take effect from 1st February, 2016, a move welcomed by the drivers and owners of vehicles. However, the fuel dealer said the sudden reduction represents losses to them as they have not exhausted their stock which was bought at the old price.

The station manager, who requested for anonymity, said they should have been given a notice that at such period there will be a reduction of the fuel pump prices to enable them to see how to avoid or mitigate any potential loss with regards to what they have in stock.

“Although the customers are buying more fuel but this does not necessarily translate into profits for us,” he revealed.

He said this development will force them to register losses.

A pump attendant in one of the filling stations confirmed that the new pump prices have boosted their sales.
