President Jammeh visited a housing estate in Guinea built by a Chinese Company that has been responsible for building housing estates in Angola.
Apparently, the President has invited them to come to the Gambia in anticipation to build luxury villas for an OIC meeting.
The Company is from the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Taiwan (ROC) was the chosen partner until relation was broken. During that period the Government continued to propagate the ROC’s claim to Nationhood. Now, one hardly hears the name of Taiwan in government or National Assembly circles.
This tends to lend credibility to the doctrine that there are no permanent friends or enemies in international relations, especially when some leaders are motivated by cheque book diplomacy. .
Foroyaa will keenly follow the new developments to see whether relation with the Chinese company would lead to change of relations with the People’s Republic of China.
