One of the decisions which would show that prisoners were released without any partisan consideration is the release of Amadou Sanneh.
Secondly, recent detainees and those who have been detained for a long time should be released.
Detention without trial is the gravest manifestation of impunity. It is an act of negating the sovereignty of a citizen. It is among the worst forms of subjecting a person to inhuman and degrading treatment.
We therefore hope that such practice is put to a stop. Gambia provides headquarters for the African Commission on human and people’s rights. It should be exemplary in protecting fundamental rights and freedoms. Otherwise, it should decline to be the host and save the country from exercising double standards.
