As was promised, following the outcry by residents, teachers and vendors within the vicinity of a dumpsite in Wellingara which 
blocked a street leading to two schools and the market, the Brikama Area Council (BAC) yesterday, 2 September, started to clear the pile of rubbish that was said to be posing a health threat.
It was earlier reported in the Foroyaa that the uncollected garbage has blocked an access route to a nursery and lower basic school as well as the community market.
In an interview on Monday with the BAC Public Relation Officer (PRO), Mr. Momodou Jonga, told this medium that they will be clearing the garbage.
Visiting the said area in the early evening yesterday, this reporter saw a bulldozer packed in the street and most of the rubbish having been removed from the dumpsite. He was informed by some of the residents in the area that BAC workers were there since in the morning removing the rubbish with a bulldozer and a tractor. They explained that the workers will be coming back today to clear the remaining garbage once and for all from the siad dumpsite.
A parent expressed a sigh of relief with the removal of the trash from the vicinity of their homes, saying that this was posing a constant threat particularly to the health of their children. He said now their children can go to school without having to pass through a street that is littered with uncollected garbage that can compromises their health.
Another parent, a mother, said they are appealing to the Area Council to do everything possible to ensure that the street is no longer used as a dumpsite and also to identify a permanent place where the rubbish can be thrown and collected by them on a regular basis.
