The rapid reaction of the state to commence a postmortem in front of witnesses and the appointment of a Coroner by the Chief Justice have given an indication that justice is on track. However, if there is any delay, justice may be derailed.
It should be noted that some officers have been suspended pending the outcome of the case. Governments may take such severe actions to pre-empt the expression of public dissatisfaction. However, it should also be noted that there is a presumption of innocence, and one should not be punished unless one is found guilty or pleads guilty to an offence. To ensure that justice is done to all and injustice to none, the inquest is expected to be conducted without delay.
