NINE DEATHS FROM COLDRIF SYRUP IN INDIA

23

Reuters has reported the deaths of nine children in India which is attributed to the consumption of Coldrif cough syrup, samples of which contain diethylene glycol (DEG) above the legally permissible limits. The syrup is manufactured by Sresan Pharma in Tamil Nodu, India.

In response to the findings, the Indian government launched inspections of 19 drug manufacturers across six states to identify flaws in quality control and prevent similar tragedies from occurring.

The Gambian authorities should take an interest in this case which is similar to the deaths that occurred in The Gambia from administering cough syrup to children in 2022. Foroyaa will monitor the situation and our readers accordingly. In the interim, companies that import drugs from India should take note of the brand that is now suspect.
