The Select Committee on disposal and sale of assets identified by the Janneh Commission, as properties of former President Jammeh, has on Monday admonished the former Secretary to Janneh Commission, Ms. Ramatoulie Sarr.
The admonition came following her responses that she gave to committee, during his second appearance before the committee to testify and answers to questions put to her by the committee.
The development came, when the Lead Counsel, Mr. Lamin M Dibba applied through the committee to caution her and to “advise her to abreast herself with the terms of reference of this committee for submissions”.
He said that that would include having to “call whoever she is to call within her command, as it was at that time, to get the relevant information that we need”.
He cautioned “And if that is not done for tomorrow, then the witness be cited for contempt for not giving full and frank disclosure to the committee and not guiding the committee as she should. That is my application Hon. Chair”.
The Chairperson, Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay, reminded the witness that she had previously appeared before the committee, and that having worked with an inquiry commission, she is familiar with the works of the commission, and “appearing before this committee, you know what the mandate of this committee is. You are supposed to come and give us information as to what you have been doing and your colleagues”.
He put it to her that because as Head of Secretary, “we expect you to be able to answer some of the questions, as the memos that we have in this report, some of them are written by you, some communications are sent through your office as well”.
He said “So it will be kind of wired for you not to understand or know what has transpired in the Janneh Commission while you were serving as Secretary”.
He told her that as such the committee will take a firm stern stance, and assured her if she thinks that she is not feeling okay as at now, “we will allow you, but we will want you to go back and go through this report and understand exactly what you have been doing, because we don’t want you to come back again and tell us you don’t know”.
He put it to her that when “you were serving as Secretary, we expect you to know everything that was happening in that office, both relating to the Office of the Chairperson and Commissioners”.
He informed her that the questions being asked are very simple, that she should be able to say something, and said “If somebody is responsible, tell us somebody is responsible”.
“We want information from you people. So any information that is relevant to this committee. We expect that to come from you as Secretary of the Commission. We will give you time to go back, read the report and understand the content of the report, so that you Know exactly what you and others have done. So that when questions come to you, you are able to respond,” he tasked the witness.
Former Secretary Sarr is scheduled to reaper today Tuesday 9th September 2025, and provide her testimonies to the committee.
