The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE), in a press released said 3 of the 39 migrants workers who departed to the Kingdom of Spain in June has reportedly absconded from their work places on 27th of July.
The ministry said: “MoTIE regrets to inform the public of notification from the Company AFRUCAT via the Dakar Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain, reporting the disappearance of three Gambian migrant workers. The three men are among the first batch of migrant workers who recently travelled to Spain under the Bilateral Labour Agreement between The Gambia Government and the Spanish Kingdom. The incident reportedly occurred on the 27th July, 2025,” it said, noting that prior their disappearance, the trio had had neither appeared for work since Monday July 28, nor reported to the authorities for their scheduled Work and Residence Permits processing appointments.
These individuals according to the ministry are: Foday Marega from Jahally, CRR South; Seedia Kebbeh from Jahally, CRR South and Demba Keita Sare Birom Kumba in NBR.
“Accordingly, MoTIE is urging these three Gambian migrant workers to return to the farm immediately, and complete the processing of their Work and Residential Permits,” the ministry appealed. Further urging the public, particularly potential future beneficiaries of this scheme to adhere to the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding, and give every Gambian, a chance to play a part in the Programme.
The first batch’s contacts were supposed to last for 3 months which was is subjected to renewal by the company, based on performance bases, with a monthly wage of 1,000 Euros.
