Cement is Now Available – Ministry of Trade

The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, in a press release, informed the public that cement is now readily available and the market has stabilised.

According to the Ministry’s press statement, current factory prices for Portland cement are: Jah Multi Industries – GMD 390 per bag for a 42.5R; Salam Cement – GMD 330 per bag for a 32.5R and Gacem – GMD 420 per bag for a 42.5R.

In the past weeks, the country was rocked by a shortage of cement, putting business and construction on hold across the country.

According to the Ministry, the destabilisation of the market was caused by temporary shortages, which stemmed from readjustments and renegotiations of international supply contracts in response to the newly imposed U.S. tariffs. These issues have now been resolved, and cement supply chains have returned to normal,’ the Ministry stated. 

According to the Ministry, the current National Stocks: Jah Multi Industries has  54,457 metric tons, Gacem has 21,000 metric tons, and Salam Cement has  59,000 metric tons.

It further stated that they confirm shipments of 34,850 metric tons will be arriving on 15 June 2025, 44,150 metric tons will be arriving on 19th June 2025, and 38,600 metric tons will be arriving on 22nd June 2025 for Jah Multi Industries.

While for Gacem, 15,000 metric tons will be arriving on 14 June 2025, and 15,000 metric tons will be arriving on 16 June 2025. For Salam Cement, 38,000 metric tons will arrive on 30 June 2025.

‘With these stocks and scheduled arrivals of bulk cement and related raw materials, the Government assures the public that cement supply is secure and that market demand will continue to be met without disruption,’ the Ministry added.

It further reaffirmed its commitment to safeguard supply stability, promote fair pricing, and support the smooth implementation of construction and infrastructure projects across the country. Meanwhile, it called on the public to support local industries.
