SKIN INFECTION LEADS TO SCHOOL CLOSURE

12

All schools and other public places where people communicate on a daily basis should take note of the information that a skin disease known as scabies has been located at a school causing the authorities to close the school and issue a notice on the spread of the disease.

Prevention is better than cure, says the old adage. It is therefore important for each Gambian to report any case that comes to one’s notice to the health authorities. The Ministry of Health has issued a statement indicating that a joint effort with partners has confirmed the prevalence of cases of the disease in one school.

Foroyaa will follow the outcome of the decision to close the school and any progress made in diagnosis and treatment of the disease. It is therefore hoped that people will take keen interest in monitoring their bodies and those around them so that early warnings could be given to the authorities to take action to prevent the illness from spreading.
